120×110 Notes and Edits

Note:  the images here are half-sized.  Higher quality versions are available on the gallery page.

Image 1 (Level 15/60)

Before/After

Themes:  Orange, Desert, Oasis, Artificial Heat, the Phoenix Suns

Average Color (RGB):  128,66,93

Lines/Changes:  149/32 (7091/13200 tiles)

Notes: After my program generated it’s first batch of images with 12 color tones (including orange), this was the one image that flaunted the new colors more than any other, and thus was my first choice to edit.  Other than keeping the orange and rose (between red and magenta) lines that drew me to the image, very little of the original remains the same.

The level only has 43 lines that are more than 15 tiles long, and 32 of them were changed.

Image 2 (Level 20/60)

Themes:  Cool, Jade, Sienna, the Spiral Pattern, Football (or diamond, whatever you would call it)

Average Color: 50, 81, 77

Lines/Changes:  107, 11 (3301/13200 tiles)

Notes:  Virtually unchanged – the 3301 tiles changed is mainly due to a barely noticeable shift in a long, dark line.  The blending of green/blues that form the border of the “football” is what attracted to me the most about this image.  The central “filler” pattern is also strangely warm and cool at the same time, in a way that fits with the rest of the image.

Image 3 (Level 48/60)

Themes:  Warmth, Deep Orange, Sunshine, Micro-Level

Average Color:  115, 116, 74

Lines/Changes:  95/14 (6786/13200 tiles)

Notes:  Mostly a transitional image that is much more about the colors than the lines.  Usually when I edit images like this I am more likely to make them worse instead of better.  One of the things that I like about it is that it continues the theme of orange – with extremely few orange lines.  The original has exactly 0 orange lines, because it is the one image in the set that was initially generated with the 30 color/6 main color theme as opposed to the new 60 color/12 main color theme.  The 3 lines that I changed to a shade of orange are all in the center and are the fourth, seventh and tenth lightest of the 11 orange shades in my 132 color editing palette.

Image 4 (Level 50/60)

Themes:  Halloween, Bright Orange, Contrast, Black, Micro-Level

Average Color:  109, 48, 52

Lines/Changes:  182/30 (5075/13200 tiles)

Notes:

The first 3 images in the set are mostly about the blending of colors, while this one is all about contrast.  The line changes were all done with the purpose of making the bright orange line stand out more:  the bottom right area is much more subtle, and the top left slightly more subtle, and a couple of dark lines were shifted to a nearly black shade.

After I had finished editing the first 3 images, my program had generated 250 images for this level and I couldn’t find one that I felt fit with the set.  So, I had my program generate 200 more images in the hope one of them would work.  While the original was almost the opposite of what I was looking for (another rich color blend but with different colors than the first 3 images), when I saw it, I knew that I had my final image for the set.  The value of the previous image is accentuated – the transition is far less stunning from either the 1st or 2nd image to this one by comparison.
