Stepping Up

Stepping Up is the first level pack in Connect the Dots:  Shadows and there’s a good reason – the step pattern is seen in many other level packs.

We love the step pattern because the solutions look so much different from the basic square pattern that’s seen in dozens of other games.

With a basic square board, the lines in the solution are mostly straight.  For each new tile in a line, there’s about a 75% chance that the line continues in the same direction.  With the step pattern, this is completely reversed – there’s about a 75% chance that the line changes direction each tile.

In addition to the puzzle looking different, we think it makes it harder too.  It’s easy to visualize straight lines connecting dots, but it takes some practice to visualize the lines doing a step pattern (if they’re not right next to the walls, at least).
