95×85

This is the first gallery that I’ve posted since the 75×60 gallery where the board isn’t square (although I did generate images for board sizes of 80×64 and 85×68 which I haven’t posted).  It is also the first gallery which is not at least as big as any of the previous galleries that I’ve posted.

While the previous rectangular galleries have followed a 1.25 to 1 height/width ratio, at 1.12 to 1 these levels are as close to a square as they are the rectangles.

Of the 12,000 levels generated for this gallery, almost 7,000 were generated after I made a small but significant code change to the level generator that introduces more randomness in the levels but also increases the time to generate levels by about 50%.

It could be any of the above factors, it could be luck, or more likely some combination – but for whatever reason, this set really exceeded my expectations.

Comparison with 100×100

This is the first gallery I have made that is not at least as big as any of the previous galleries.  The 100×100 gallery preceding it took almost a month to create.  This one took less than half the time.

Here is a comparison:

  Levels
Gallery Generated Imaged Included Total Images Proc Time
100×100 20,000 180 (120) 49 (42) 76 (65) 21 days
95×85 12,000 60 40 61 10 days

For the 100×100 set – I started with images for 120 levels and later generated images for an additional 60 levels that just missed the cut (determined by my program).  The numbers in parentheses exclude these 60 levels from the totals.

Even not counting those – nearly twice the rate of imaged levels (67% vs. 35%) were included for this gallery compared to 100×100.   The difference is a bit less if we go by the number of levels generated (0.33% vs. 0.21%).

The latter translates to 300 and 476 levels generated per each level in the galleries – and about 4 and 12 hours of processing time.
